You Tell Me

Which of these should I be reading next.

Ak and I often read together so that we talk and rant about the books at the same time. This became a favorite passtime with the Twilight Saga books, but I am looking for our next high.

  1. Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
  2. A Reliable Wife
  3. The Same River Twice
  4. Some Girls Are

If you have even better suggestions, throw em my way.  I prefer a good, fast, dark read-but am open to just about anything.

Comments

  1. Definitely The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and the rest of the series! I couldn’t put them down 🙂

  2. Girl with the Dragon Tattoo! And if you are into suspense-mystery novels like that, I HIGHLY recommend Tana French’s books In The Woods & The Likeness.

I am in the middle of reading The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo … addiction! cannot put it down 🙂

  4. I am a reading fiend, but haven’t read any of those yet. I’m a sucker for historical fiction, especially the Tudor era, but my favorite author right now is Anna Maxted. Her books are a type of smarter chick lit, with really relatable characters.

I’d start with Getting Over It or Running In Heels – both can be found for a few bucks at Half Price Books

  5. Thanks for the recommendations. I have been looking for a good summer read. I am going to snag them all.

The Philippa Gregory Tudor stuff is really good and if you haven’t read Jodi Picoult and don’t mind a little weeping, she’s great. Always writes about controversial subjects and makes you sympathize with both sides.

  6. I loved Girl With the Dragon Tattoo – so that has my vote. I haven’t read the other three though – thanks for the suggestions!

  7. I just finished The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, and although I ended up LOVING it, it took me a looooong time (150-200 pages or so?) to really get into it.

  8. My sister, my mom, and I all read The Hollows series by Kim Harrison, and we all LOVED them! The first one is Dead Witch Walking.

  9. @ all my book worm buddies. I think the jury is in on the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, but to give you all due diligence, I am putting ALL of these books on my reading list (and will make AK do the same) and we will keep you posted on our take!

  10. You should read Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs by Chuck Klosterman. You know, since we had a deal and all for you to read it.

  11. Dude. Don’t bother with the Reliable Wife – just finished it. Too short for the subject, and mostly just tedious. It felt like a forced march, not an enjoyable story. SKIP.

  12. Book #1…don’t be deterred by the fact that it starts slow!

  13. Dragon Tattoo was highly readable but I came away from it with the disturbing feeling that the author hated women. Something about this book just didn’t feel right for me….

Just finished reading Dragon Tattoo and sequel. I was surprised that i really liked both of these! Dragon starts off slow but you really get into it. They are definitely thrillers.
I haven’t read the other ones.

  15. Not dark, but have you read any of Katherine Center’s books? She’s a local author (Houston) and her newest book, Get Lucky, just came out in April. It’s excellent!

  16. @Meg no I have not. I am definitely interested. Are the books dark? For whatever reason that’s kind of my deal–the escape of things. Thanks for the tip and the word about support local authors.

  17. @Angelique thanks for your take on that–your the first person I’ve heard that from but VERY interesting. @ Wendi, thanks for the tips! @Jwo please suggest a book that is even remotely interesting. I THOUGHT i knew you Jwo. @Jamie thanks for telling me not to waste me time on, appreciated!!!
