I’ve said it before and I’m saying it again, I’m on the road a LOT, but do you know my favorite road trip of all? Anywhere that will take me on I-35 through the small town of West, TX.
West is the home of the Czech Stop…part gas station, part bakery, which happens to make the BEST kolaches, breads, baked goods I’VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE! Unfortunately I don’t travel up or down I-35 as much as I would like, but my sister-in-law and her family brought about $100 worth of kolaches to my house over the weekend so I’ve officially had my fix for awhile.
PEOPLE, if you’re traveling anywhere near West, make it a priority to go to the Czech Stop, you won’t be disappointed. Don’t believe me? Google it and you’ll see all kinds of love for this place! (If you do stop, hot chubby and hot ham and cheese kolaches are my fave…)
I have not left a comment for you ladies before, but am a loyal lurker. But oh, I HAVE to comment on this… I so miss kolaches. I mean the REAL kolaches they have in TX. I grew up in Katy, TX and now live in CO. No one has any idea what you’re talking about when you ask for kolaches here. Even at a local german bakery. You get some lame cookie-like thing w/ jelly. 🙁 Thx for a little nostalgia and inducing a major craving for this pregnant girl! BTW, I love you girls and your tipsy tips. One of my fav blog visits each day!
Yes! We just drove from Dallas to Austin and back while visiting family (we live in Nashville) and stopped there both times! I’ve never found anything comparable anywhere else. LOVE.
agree! that place is delicious!!
I’ll be stopping there in a couple of weeks on my way to Dallas from Austin. Can’t wait to stock up on POPPYSEED kolaches. They are the best!
@Stacy: Thanks! (And I TOTALLY agree with you that no other place makes kolaches like TX!!!
@brandi: Was it busy both times? Any time of the day we go there, the place is always packed!
I’m driving through West on Saturday — thanks for the reminder about this place 🙂
