iPhone Apps: Kindle

Due to recent events of which I only had moderate control over, I’ve been outed, so I’ve decided to let you all know how I read the Twilight Saga.

My husband has been using the Kindle app for a while now and swore by it.  It had been a while since I’d read anything really and I thought maybe I might just read the first chapter of this fluff awesomeness that I’d heard of, you know during the hours I was spending rocking my kid to sleep.  So I downloaded and was reading installment one immediately, on a whim, instant gratification–it was NICE!  Then when the addiction set in and I was on to books 2, 3, and 4 and it was 4 in the morning and I didn’t want to get dressed and run to some all night bookstore (do those exist?) looking for the next book to buy to feed my addition, I just downloaded it via the Kindle app.

It’s the awesomeness I tell you.  Yes it keeps your place even if you turn the iPhone off or whatever.  Yes you can see it, the word size can be adjusted.  And it moves nicely, just like any other app..you just swipe to go to the next page.  You can also download previews of books so that you can read a few pages and see if you like it or not.  I’ve done that quite a few times now.  All I’m going to say is TRY IT, YOU’LL LIKE IT!

oh and TEAM EDWARD.

sorry for that outburst.

iPhone Apps: Grocery iQ

A few weeks ago Sarah posted on whether or not she should get the iPhone or a Blackberry Bold.  I had been playing with the idea of switching from a Blackberry over to the iPhone myself.  My husband had already made that transition and was LOVING it.  So of course all your comments on the iPhone pretty much sealed the deal for me in terms of the iPhone.  Then I received one for Valentine’s Day!!  I thought I’d post some apps that are making my life a ton easier.

Grocery iQ….DUDE this thing is crazy cool and I know I haven’t even used all the features.  On a basic level it’s just your regular shopping list.  However it does make things easier by grouping everything by the store aisles.  You can hook up your savings card to it for coupons…I haven’t gotten around to doing that just yet.  The BOMB thing about this app? My husband and I both have this installed on our respective iPhones and you can share one list.  So when he adds something, it shows up for me and vice versa…so whoever is out and about and able to pick something up at the grocery store they have the main list and can check the item off and it updates it for the other one.  SO TOTALLY COOL.  I know I sound super geeky…sorry, but I kinda am.

Opinions WANTED

Blackberry Bold vs. iPhone

So, my husband got an iPhone circa 2008 and I thought it was the most RIDICULOUS purchase ever. However, now that everyone, including my mother, has one, I’m starting to reconsider its coolness factor. The only thing I’m concerned about is the emailing capabilities and the touch keypad on the iPhone, which, I’m told, I will get used to, but the thing is that I really do use my blackberry for daily business emailing.

I’m going to get a new phone within the next two weeks and I’m torn between these two phones. Remember, this phone will be used a lot for business.

What phone will be best for my needs?

(All thoughts and opinions greatly appreciated!)

Sites for Sanity

I’ve got a few websites that make living my life a ton easier.  The best thing about them is that they are FREE.  So check these sites out my peeps…

Mint.com

My husband and I use this site for all things money budgeting.  You link your bank accounts, credit card accounts, home loan, car loans, 401k, IRA and the list goes on and on.  Once you’ve done that, you can tell where your money is going, if you are on budget or not and really anything else you ever wanted to know.  We can just log in and see if we’ve eaten out one too many times this month and know that we need to tone it down.  And don’t worry–its secure–like bank-level security secure.

Teuxdeux.com

I’m a list-maker.  It helps me breathe when I make a list of everything I need to do for the day.  Problem is, I can’t ever find a pen when I need one!  Teuxdeux.com is super duper simple.  You just type in what you need to do when and click on the stuff as you complete things.  If you don’t complete all your tasks, it automatically moves those items to the next day for you.

Totspot.com

Totspot has been a lifesaver since we had our little bambino.  It’s sorta like Facebook for kiddos.  Basically instead of trying to email a ton of people whenever we have little updates or pictures or what have you, we just enter it all in totspot and totspot emails everyone at once for us.    It’s very secure so only the people that are your kiddo’s friends/family can see the info.  Family/Friends can comment on photos or anything really they want to.  There are growth charts so you can record doctor appointment stats …I’m telling you it’s all VERY cool!
