Hump Day Happy Hour: Schnappy Joes

I generally have one cup of coffee a day, in the morning.  However in the winter I generally have a craving for a cup in the late afternoon when it’s cold outside.  If I weren’t all preggers and stuff I’d definitely be trying one of these.  Somebody try one and let me know if it’s good!

1 cup of Coffee
1 serving of Hot Chocolate
1 shot of Butterscotch Schnapps

Hump Day Happy Hour: My Fav Bubbly

I found it.  After searching long and hard and giving every single kind of sparkling wine a fair and equal chance, I found it! My favorite bubbly.

I have not a clue how to pronounce it.  But I do know its less that 10 dollars at most grocery stores, its crisp and clean.  If you like sparkling wines, this is a sure bet.

Hump Day Happy Hour: Los Vascos

It’s a good thing I’m preggers during the winter because I’m not really craving or missing beer as much as I might in a HOTT Texas summer; however, my sister broke open a bottle of this stuff at Christmas and it sure did smell wonderful!

This is her go to red wine: Los Vascos Cabernet Sauvignon and people, it’s not only cheap, but can usually be found in the grocery store. Enjoy a glass for me!

Hump Day Happy Hour: Gluwein

This German version of a spiced wine (pronounced “clue wine”) used to be a staple at my house during Christmastime. We haven’t made this wine for several years, but I think  this will be the year we bring it back…sounds delish and I wish I could partake!

  • 4 quarts of dry red wine (you can use a cheap wine for this)
  • 1 pint of brandy
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 6 cinnamon sticks
  • 12 whole cloves
  • 1/8 tsp allspice
  • 1/8 tsp mace
  • 2 oranges, sliced
  • 1 lemon sliced

Pour the wine into a large pot and begin heating over low heat. As it begins to warm, add sugar and spices. Stir until sugar is dissolved.

Add the brandy.

Add the lemon and orange.  Heat thoroughly but do not allow the wine to ever boil.

Serve hot and garnish with orange slices.

Hump Day Happy Hour: Berry Christmas Punch

I consider this the home stretch of planning all the get togethers and meals surrounding the holiday season.  This is sure to be a crowd pleaser, looks its takes a bit of prep, but could really pay off!

  • 1.5 liters Ocean Spray raspberry cranberry, well chilled
  • 2  bottles of sparkling wine, well chilled
  • 1/2 cup Cointreau
  • 2 limes, quartered
  • 1 cup strawberries, washed, halved
  • 3/4 cup blueberries
  • 1/2 cup raspberries
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves

Pour the cranberry juice, sparkling wine and Cointreau into a punch bowl. Use your hands to squeeze some of the juice from the limes into the punch. Stir. Add the squeezed limes to the punch. Add the strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and mint leaves. Dunzo.

Some of the other tipsy gals have really cool pitchers to serve this out of, like the ones shown here, I think it would be a shoe-in to a berry merry Christmas!

Hump Day Happy Hour: Gingerbread Manhattan

Sticking with the holiday theme, today’s Hump Day Happy Hour is a Gingerbread Manhattan.  I’m not a whiskey girl by any means, I for one think it tastes like band-aids but I might be tempted to try this NEXT holiday season (when I can partake in such libations).

Try this one out for me and let me know how it is…

Gingerbread Manhattan

  • 3 oz Maker’s Mark
  • 1 oz Gingerbread Liqueur

Hump Day Happy Hour: Irish Eggnog

I know there are some eggnog lovers out there and my husband is one of them.  I feel quite confident he would love this drink as he loves eggnog and he loves guinness.  Has anybody tried this one?

Irish Eggnog

1 oz Guinness
1 oz Bacardi Golden Rum
Eggnog

Hump Day Happy Hour: Autumn Eve Martini

For this turkey day, I went in search for a fabulous drink to accompany our meal and ran across this….OMG sounds so good…someone, PLEASE make this and let us knocked up ladies of the world know how it tastes!

  • .5 oz Amaretto
  • .5 oz Raspberry Liqueur
  • .25 oz Sour Mix
  • .5 oz Southern Comfort
  • 1 oz Raspberry Vodka
  • Mix and serve chilled

Hump Day Happy Hour: Red Door

  1. 1 jigger of vodka
  2. Splash of St. Germain
  3. Top off with Raspberry Puree

Shake this like you would a martini and serve in martini glass.

Side note:  I recently enjoyed this beverage during an ad-hoc happy hour where we were politely asked to order and consume more food  so that we could order another round of drinks.  I believe this was the pre-cutoff.  Either way we ordered more food, I drank my Red Door, and all was good with the world.

Hump Day Happy Hour: Baby Blue Whiskey

Baby Blue Whiskey is made by the Balcones distillery right here in the great state of Texas. I’ve never tried this whiskey, but since my hubby likes to drink whiskey in the winter time, I might have to grab him a bottle to try!
