What is your GO-TO drink?

Hump Day Happy Hour: Tecate Mojito

My hubby and I are huge Rick Bayless fans.  We have loved him on Top Chef, Top Chef Masters and he also has a show on PBS called One Plate at a Time.  We have a cookbook of his that we swear by…  I was meandering around on his site and ran across this drink recipe that I thought I definitely need to try!  Try it out with me!

Tecate Mojitos

3/4 cup sugar
48 large mint leaves
1/2 cup fresh lime juice
1/2 cup white rum or silver tequila
Four 12-ounce cans of Tecate beers (or other light, citrus-y tasting beer)
Ice

In a small saucepan combine the sugar and 3/4 cup water.  Bring to a simmer, stirring to dissolve the sugar.  Cool.

For each drink, place 6 mint leaves in the bottom of a 10 to 12 ounce glass.  Add 2 tablespoons of the sugar syrup plus 1 tablespoon each of the lime juice and rum or tequila.  Crush (muddle) the mint into the liquid with a muddler or the back of a spoon or fork to release its flavor.  Fill the glass about 3/4 full with ice cubes.  Slowly pour in half of one of the beers, stir well with a long-handled spoon and serve right away.

(makes 8 drinks)

Hump Day Happy Hour: Spicy (Bloody) Mary

Nothing is better for a brunch, for a hangover, and for anytime really!

I particularly like my bloody mary’s extra, extra spicy, so here’s my recipe:

  • 1 shot of Vodka
  • Fill the glass 3/4 full of spicy V8
  • Add a couple of dashes of Tabasco
  • Add a couple of dashes of Worcestershire sauce
  • Lime juice and pepper to taste

Don’t forget the celery and olives for a garnish!

Hump Day Happy Hour: Oops!

So I’m going to go ahead and preface this by saying, I’ve never tried this red wine before. BUT! BUT! BUT! My husband has and several members of the Tipsy crew have when Keno came around to my house and it went down like hotcakes!  I generally don’t drink red because it makes me all sneezy and weezy. I know, I know-LAME! But seriously-go try this-my hubby guarantees you’ll like it!

Hump Day Happy Hour: Rouviere Rose

Today’s wine comes in at under $10.00!!!

I found this gem at my local Whole Foods store for $7.00, but I’m assuming you can probably find it at many locations. It’s a French Rose’ that Court and I gave two thumbs up to during our tour de wine night.

It’s fun, it’s pretty, and it’s a great summer wine!

Hump Day Happy Hour: Peach Cooler

I thought I’d go with something seasonal for today’s Hump Day Happy Hour.  In Texas right now, peaches are TASTY, so it got me thinking about some sort of drink  I could make to incorporate what I had in the house. Enter White Grape Peach juice (yes it’s my son’s, shut it), sparkling wine and some fresh sliced peaches.

(Der, you could make this with some peach sparkling water whaaaa!)

Hump Day Happy Hour: Stemmari

I have another unique and cheap (under $15) wine for you guys!

Fuedo Arancio Stemmari is a Sicillian wine that is similar to a pinot grigio. Court and I drank a bottle, or 2, during a recent random wine night and I think it’s safe to say that we give it 2 thumbs up!

Hump Day Happy Hour: Frozen Margaritas

This is my tried and true Margarita recipe.  It’s super duper easy.  Get the large Minute Maid Frozen Limeade and squeeze it into the blender.  Fill up the Minute Maid container about 3/4 full with Mr & Mrs T Margarita Mix and add to the blender.  Then fill the container 3/4 full with tequila* and add to the blender as well.  Add ice to the top of the blender container.  Blend and drink. You can pour into a glass or you could just drink it out of the blender pitcher.  Whichever you prefer.

*Centenario Anejo tequila is by far the best tequila my husband and I have encountered.  It’s definitely our “good” tequila that we always have on hand.  You can use whatever kind of tequila you prefer.

Hump Day Happy Hour: Verdejo

Name: Placio de Bornos Verdejo

While shopping stocking up on wine at Specs, our local liquor and wine super-store, this weekend, I asked one of the stores wine experts for some recommendations on a good, $15 or under, sauvignon blanc or pinot grigio…this is what he immediately sent me to! The Sommelier wine expert told me it was from Spain and said it was comparable to a crisp sauvignon blanc.

My sister and I thorouhly enjoyed this wine on Saturday night and this will not be the last bottle, or two consumed. I bought several “new to me” wines this weekend and I’ll keep you posted if any of them are worth bragging about!

Hump Day Happy Hour: The Marie Clara

I saw this recipe in the July 2010 Marie Claire and it caught my eye…sounds delish doesn’t it!?!?!

Mix:

  • 1.5 oz. white tequila
  • 1.5 oz. ginger ale
  • 1 oz. white grapefruit juice

Garnish with a lime and enjoy!
