The Cookbooks That Keep Those Last 10lbs On Me

I was blessed with a husband that LOVES to cook.  Which works out perfectly for me because I really only ENJOY doing party food….you know Guac, Appetizers, Texas Caviar, any Desserts…  Our cookbook collection varies quite a bit because he loves to cook all sorts of stuff and I like to cook pretty specific stuff.  These are our go-to cookbooks:

  1. La Pinata, Junior League of McAllen, TX–I know this cookbook seems kinda far fetched to order and stuff but it was handed down through my family.  It’s got a ton of good recipes–The Never Fail Biscuits OMG are so good I could make myself sick, King Ranch Casserole, Chicken Tetrazzini, and the list goes on…
  2. The Lady & Sons Savannah Country Cookbook (Paula Deen), Amazon–You can’t go wrong with the Gooey Butter Cakes and my husband likes The Lady’s Chicken Noodle Soup
  3. Finger Food, Amazon–The perfect party cookbook! The pizza pinwheels on the cover are GOOD and there are a ton more things in here that are perfect hor d’oerves.
  4. Sangrias & Pitcher Drinks, Amazon–I’ve used the Strawberry Basil Lemonade recipe for partys/showers and it’s a HIT.
  5. Mexican Everyday (Rick Bayless), Amazon–My husband made the Pork Tinga and it was UHmazing…and I love love love the Guacamole 2 Ways–could sit and eat that with chips for dinner.
  6. CrockPot, Amazon–There is a Chipolte Chicken recipe in here that has been on our weekly lineup for a LONG TIME.  It’s yummy!
  7. The Pioneer Woman Cooks, Amazon–EVERYTHING
  8. Mexico The Beautiful Cookbook, Amazon–Mexico City Enchiladas and the Avocado Salad Dressing are TO DIE FOR!

I <3 Plasticland.com Because It’s Nuts (like me).

I found your mercury glass AK.  One slight detail–they are mushrooms.  But why not?  Also, why not have salt and peppa shakers shaped liked ninjas?  Here are some of my favorite picks from Plasticland.com.

  1. Creepy Cute Crochet DIY Craft Book – when I do learn how to crochet, it will most certainly be these little zombies.
  2. Day Dream Panel – looks very Asian to me ladies.  Which means I am sold.
  3. Ninjas Salt & Pepper Shaker Set – I think everyone could use more ninja in their lives.  Don’t you?
  4. Pink Cristale Plume Feather Pen – my level of professionalism will be taken up 1000 notches when the folks at the office see my scribing with this.
  5. Lime Best of Both Worlds Mugs – one side is a tea cup (for all the tea parties I still have with my teddy bears) and one side is a legit coffee mug.  Business on the front, party on the back–similar to a mullet.
  6. The Chef’s Planning Kit – comes with all sorts of to do lists, shopping pads, menu organizers and sure to be hilarious Chef’s Quote Book.  Made for that chef in your life (re: Jwo).
  7. Mercury Glass Decorative Mushrooms – look no further AK.  Found the perfect mercury glass to adorn your mantel.  Yes, yes, they are mushrooms, but I think that says a lot about character:)

New Year’s Resolutions: AK Edition

I never make New Year’s Resolutions. Ever.  But I thought, you know, we are going into this year a little different than any year before and I thought, why not.  I think it’ll be fun to look back and see if I could pull any of this off in a year.  So here goes:

ak-resolutions

  1. Try and take a walk with the kiddo every day if weather allows.
  2. Learn to sew, like for real with my new Christmas gift.  My ultimate goal:  a baby clothes memory quilt.
  3. Implement some sort of regularly occurring date night that went to shit when we had our bouncing baby boy.
  4. Get back into going to more movies SOMEHOW, SOMEWAY!  My mom and I used to go to a movie every Sunday pre-bebe and pre-2009.  I need my theater watching experience por favor.
  5. Organize!  Organize the junk drawer in the kitchen, organize the closets in the extra bedroom and finally organize my closet (trying on clothes and seeing what actually fits and doesn’t). (and just FYI that’s not my closet, you don’t want to see it)
  6. Read more and when I say more, like maybe a whole book.  Magazines don’t count.  Google Reader doesn’t count.  I may even go so far as to go for 10 books in 2010.

BAM! Gifted*

I thought I would share with all of you some of the presents my little family procured on Jesus’ Birthday.  I’ll let you guess who got what.  We are all absolutely in love with our presents but only one of us (my son, Jack) goes and kisses their present (the monkey) multiple times a day.

  1. Little Tykes Smart Trike, Amazon
  2. Silly Monkey, My Pillow Pets
  3. Rick Bayless’ Mexican Everyday, Amazon
  4. Apple Gift Card, Apple.com
  5. Brother Sewing Machine, Amazon

What did yall get?

*That’s a little modified “The Office” humor for my husband because I like to make him laugh
