THE Snack Trap

For all the mommies out there…when your child gets to the age where they an actually feed themselves…man o man it’s a wonderous thing RIGHT?!  I went on the hunt for a snack trap that my little guy could carry around and not make a huge mess. Sooooo my first purchase was #2.  #2 looks great in theory but that little top that you see…it can be ripped off very easily and the snack is no longer trapped.  FAIL.  Then I purchased #1, it seemed a little more secure.  However if you turn it upside down and shake VERY hard the snacks won’t be trapped.  FAIL.  Then I found the ONE.  #3.  It’s bigger, yes, it’s ugly, yes.  BUT.  The top screws on and the part they push their hand through to get to the snack…I’m telling you it’s virtually impossible for them to spill unless they are like my son who likes to grab a handful of cheerios and pull his hand out and sprinkle them all over the floor. FTW!

Etsy Spotlight: Coco + Milkweed

Coco + Milkweed is today’s Etsy Spotlight.  I’ve purchased the top two bibs from this store and absolutely love them.  They’ve definitely taken a beatin’ and kept on tickin’.  I love all the fabrics that are used, they aren’t your normal everyday types of themes but they can definitely be your normal everyday types of bibs.  Bibs with style baby!

By the way…Coco + Milkweed sells other items as well, I’m just partial to the bibs.

Snug As A Bug In A Rug

Hey new mommies, I’m gonna introduce you to the best. swaddling. blanket. ever.  by Aden and Anais.  They are huge and soft and cute as can be.  We’ve actually used one as a sheet for our travel crib before…that’s how big they are!  The makers of these blankets also have a book out called Swaddle Love!  If one of yall gets this book, let me know if your little Houdini can get out of these swaddle techniques!

Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice

Sure would be nice to be a little girl these days. There seems to be much cuter stuff available than when I sported my crimped side ponytail and hammer pants. I don’t even have a bebe girl and here I am checking out their latest fashions and drooling. But how can you resist these adorable things??? If I have a daughter, I’m going to go broke. Final answer.

Pillows Gone Wild

I’m a sucker for a decorative pillow.  In my son’s nursery on his glider we keep a monkey pillow.  Not that I would change out the monkey pillow, but I just thought I’d check to see what all is out there these days.  DUDE, these are the CUTEST!  I’m trying to decide which is my favorite but I’m guessing Der’s is gonna be the weiner dog.

Smooth As A Baby’s Butt

My little munchkin has had some eczema outbreaks during this TEXAS COLD SNAP ’09/’10.  So I thought I’d share with you what we are doing to FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT the eczema!!

  1. Boudreaux’s Baby Kisses Infant & Kids Lip and Cheek Moisturizer-If you haven’t heard of Boudreaux’s Butt Paste for diaper rash then you are missing out!  That stuff works and so does this!  But this stuff is for your little one’s lips and cheeks.
  2. Aquaphor Baby Healing Ointment-For all over, this stuff is thick and we’ve used this head to toe, especially now when the cold wind is a whippin’.  The bonus with this stuff is that after you’ve slathered the kiddo, you can rub this into your cuticles for a little mini mani!
  3. method baby Squeaky Green Body Lotion-We use this mainly for our little guy’s legs and knocks those dry spots out pretty quick.

Welcome to the Hood

The Hooded Towel that is… My little munchkin started growing out of his hooded towels, so he asked for some more for Christmas.  He procured #1 and #3 from his Grannie.  Specifically the duck one on #1 and I can’t tell you the cuteness, the utter OMG cuteness when he’s got this on.  Here’s some more that I like and for all of you mamas with little girls, I threw a unicorn in for ya.

Baby Cankles

Does your baby have CANKLES?  Can you not fit shoes on their feet?  Even if you get the shoes on their feet, do the shoes come off?  I feel your pain.  We have a cankle situation over here.  I have a solution:  Me in Mind Footwear.  I highly recommend them.  Our crib invested in some and my kiddo has them in Navy and Grey.  Super cute and they stay on.  I promise.

Year In Review: How We Survived a Full Year of Baby

These items have helped my husband and I survive this year.  So I guess this is a Year in Review/Survival Guide.  These items have helped us through months 3 through 14 of bouncing baby boy.  I know all kiddos are different but maybe one of these items may help you make it out alive.

  1. Dex Baby Sound Sleeper, Amazon-Womb setting on mid volume anytime, anywhere combined with #7 will induce slumber like no other combo.  It may or may not induce slumber minus #7 in mama & dad, just saying.
  2. Sophie the Giraffe Teether, Amazon-This little dude is called George in our casa.  George is excellent for all things teething.  As our little one has gotten older different parts of George work better–currently he’s working on George’s leg.
  3. Itzbeen Baby Care Timer, Amazon-Months 1-3 this was the BOMB for tracking feedings and sleeping and everything.  Months 4 and beyond we’ve mainly used this gem for tracking any sort of medicine or Tylenol when he’s teething.
  4. Night Night Baby Sleeper, Hanna Andersson-These PJs are awesome.
  5. Animal Ears Hat, The June Bride Etsy Shop-I’ve posted on these before.  We currently have a navy, orange, turquoise, and brown we have been rotating this winter.  They are super cute, stay on and my little munchin doesn’t rip them off his head.
  6. Bright Starts Around We Go Activity Center, Amazon-This thing is sort of an exersaucer-ish type of thing except the baby can actually move from one activity to another.  The seat can come off and can be used as an activity table.  At 14 months we are still going strong with the piano part of this thing sans the seat–what can I say, we like to dance around here.
  7. Soothie Pacifier, Amazon-This was the only pacifier my son would take.  And I think my husband and I high fived each other for days when in the middle of the night we’d watch our son on the video monitor find it on his own and put himself back to sleep.
  8. Baby Bjorn Babysitter Balance, Amazon-We used a different bouncer very early on, but this one has been great from about 5 months til present.  I think we are getting to our weight limit on it, but we still use this in the mornings when preparing breakfast and needed to keep the speed demon in place.  He still hasn’t figured out how to get out of it, he just happily bounces!
  9. Nuby Sippy Cups, Amazon-THE sippy cup.  We have searched high and low for a sippy cup that my son will drink out of and this seems to be the big winner!
  10. Nesting Blocks, Amazon-I ordered some nesting blocks like this before the little bebe was born.  BEST. PURCHASE. EVER.  Our little dude still loves to play with these and he never tires of them.

Oh and if all other toys FAIL?  Give em one of these…talk about endless fun, endless fascination.  I don’t get it.

The Best Changing Pad EVER!

Have you heard of this changing pad?  Dude, it’s SO THE BOMB!  It’s called a Patemm Pad and its round.  It folds up, it holds diapers, it holds wipes, it has a carrying handle so you can grab it and run out the door and you have everything you need for a quick trip.  It also fits perfectly in my Skip Hop Duo Deluxe diaper bag.

I’m telling you this changing pad will change your life.  I have this thing about public restrooms….you know like they are just feces infested germ caves..nothing major.  So when I have to change my child, the same child that squirms relentlessly during diaper changes, I’m always a little freaked about doing it in public because I just know his poor delicate baby skin might touch filth.  Well not with this changing pad I tell you!  You can just unfold it and part of the circle protects your kiddo from the evil backside of the flip out changing table and the other part of the circle is underneath.  PERFECT!  Now if I could just get that other kid to stop sneezing in our direction–pardon the glare I’m giving you as I shield my child, while cleaning my hands with Purell.
