The Twelve Days of Jack

So.  October 2008, my husband and I welcomed a little bambino.  Because of the timing, we got a ton of Christmas baby stuff…booties, hats, PJs, bibs–you name it.  So the hubmeister and I came up with a way to showcase our little man in all his winnings but not put him through 500 clothing changes in the one day that is Christmas.  Our solution?  The Twelve Days of Jack (that’s his name hahaha)!

This is the way The Twelve Days of Jack worked:  In the 12 days leading up to Christmas day, we would dress him up in his Christmas socks or his Christmas bib or what have you.  Then we would upload that pic to Totspot which is a Facebook type of thing for babies. It’s fabulous–all your relatives and friends sign up to be your kiddo’s friend and then you upload your journal entry, picture or video ONCE and it sends out a link to everybody he’s friends with.  Each day SOMEONE gets to relish in the fact that their Christmas themed present was showcased AND your kiddo doesn’t have to endure the revolving dressing room door.  It’s definitely a WIN WIN.

We got TONS of applause for this idea from the fam–everyone was anticipating the next day, excited to see what Jack would have on the next day.  So go forth and gear up for your Twelve Days!

The Best Changing Pad EVER!

Have you heard of this changing pad?  Dude, it’s SO THE BOMB!  It’s called a Patemm Pad and its round.  It folds up, it holds diapers, it holds wipes, it has a carrying handle so you can grab it and run out the door and you have everything you need for a quick trip.  It also fits perfectly in my Skip Hop Duo Deluxe diaper bag.

I’m telling you this changing pad will change your life.  I have this thing about public restrooms….you know like they are just feces infested germ caves..nothing major.  So when I have to change my child, the same child that squirms relentlessly during diaper changes, I’m always a little freaked about doing it in public because I just know his poor delicate baby skin might touch filth.  Well not with this changing pad I tell you!  You can just unfold it and part of the circle protects your kiddo from the evil backside of the flip out changing table and the other part of the circle is underneath.  PERFECT!  Now if I could just get that other kid to stop sneezing in our direction–pardon the glare I’m giving you as I shield my child, while cleaning my hands with Purell.

7 Ways to Make an Eclectic Nursery

When I found out I was having a boy, I knew what I didn’t want in a nursery. I didn’t want pastels, I didn’t want typical.  What I did want was his nursery to look like it belonged to the rest of our house which is colorful and eclectic.

I had seen, at a local antique show, a slew of owls painted on some weathered fence boards and immediately wanted it for my son’s nursery however it was a GAZILLION dollars, so I set out to make it and therein came the theme for my son’s room: owls.  I read somewhere after I picked that theme that owls bring good luck, wisdom, and watchful protection to your home–LOVED IT!

My hunt for owls then returned the Flights of Fancy Mobile, which just embodied the colorfulness that I wanted.  From there I wanted unique animals and found the Dodo Bird print, Pongo (who I loved so much I framed him) and Magnus.

What’s That? What’s That? It’s the Great Pumpkin!

Are you dressing up your wee one this Halloween?  You know, the one that probably hasn’t even had candy yet, but so you can take him around your neighborhood and get yourself candy?  Or are you going to spend the money on a costume for one Halloween picture?  Either way, I have found some TURBO cute costumes that are sure to drive the little one INSANE what with all the stuff around his face and making it difficult to walk and all.  But GOOD LORD they are cute, aren’t they?  I think it’s a tie for me between the Masked Owl and the Roast Turkey…mmmmhmmm baby toes!!

I Love Me Some Baby Hats

When my little boy was a tiny baby, he had a hat on his head wherever we went.  I loved me some baby hats.  My dad told me, if I didn’t stop putting hats on him, his hair wouldn’t grow.  Blagh!  On a related note, my 1 yr old is just starting to get some hair on his noggin.
