Outfit Request: Defending a Thesis

I got a request yesterday from a Tipsy reader asking my opinion about what to wear when defending a thesis in a science field. For those of you who don’t know any science-minded people, many of them are a tad bit challenged when it comes to style. And by a tad bit, I mean a whole lot.  Because they often dress super casual for work (jeans and socks with sandals…eek!), the goal is to look professional without being too dressy (i.e. no suits). Here are a few options I came up with…

option 1. Fixed Bow Striped Sheath Dress +Mossimo Black Vanette Kitten Heel Pumps

option 2. Merona Collection Jillian Crosshatch Skirt + Merona Women’s Double Layer Shirred V-Neck TopAdi Desings Classic Pointed Toe Pumps

option 3. Ruffle and Striped Belted Dress + Cuffed Sleeve V-Neck Cardigan + Mossimo Pearce Pumps

option 4.  Banded Waist Button Front Shirt + Chino Solid Ruffle Skirt + Mossimo Pearce Pumps

For those of you looking for something less trendy, you can never go wrong with a classic sheath dress!

Starting the New Year with Flare

There is a new silhouette on the denim scene for 2011 and I could not be more excited to see this oldie but goodie make a comeback. Flare leg jeans have a super 70’s vibe that I LOVE and to me they just fit on more body types than the last denim trend of the skinny variety. I can’t wait to slip on some of these with some platforms and big glasses while humming to the tune of Stayin’ Alive.

  1. Old Navy, Skinny Flared Trouser Jeans
  2. New York and Company, Super Flare Jeans
  3. Gap, New Wide Leg Trouser Jeans
  4. Yoox, Meltin Pot Jeans
  5. Express, Flare Leg Jean Leggings

Belt it Out

The one thing I was most excited about post pregnancy(besides, ya know, having the baby) was wearing a belt ! The trend is taking us down the skinny minnie lane as far as belts go as of lately. I’m totally on board with the skinny belted cardi look, the monochromatic outfit with a skinny belt accent and they look great wearing multiples stacked too. Here are some fantabulous skinny belts. How do you wear your skinny?

  3. Charlotte Russe, Skinny Minnie Bow Belt

Holy Sequin I Need a Party to Attend

Every which way you turn your pretty little head there are sequins galore on tops, cardigans, skirts, you name it. I have one problem and that is no where to wear them. I am determined to find a way to work any or all of these into my holiday wardrobe even if it means partying with a 2 month old while daddy’s at work. Spit up be damned!

  2. Charlotte Russe, Sequin Pencil Skirt
  3. NY and Company, Matte Sequin Tank Top

To In-Vest or Not To In-Vest?

Okay ladies, I need some opinions here. If you haven’t already noticed, faux fur vests seem to be a big trend for the fall. I think they are so cute, but part of me is hesitant to purchase one for the following reason:  I can’t decide if I would

A) Look like an idiot because I live in south Texas (even though I wouldn’t wear it until it actually gets cold)
B) Look like I am trying to be a Viking
C) Look totally adorable

What do you think?

  1. Target,  Merona Collection Lisa Faux Fur Vest
  2. New York and Company, Faux Fur Vest
  3. Forever 21, Cozy Faux Fur Vest
  4. Forever 21, Faux Fur Vest w/ Bow Belt

$50 Fridays: My Sister’s Closet

My sister and I have a fantasy that one day we will open a trendy, fun boutique type store and call it My Sister’s Closet. Growing up, when asked where she got her outfits that would be her reply…see,  because she was a little thief.  I have to admit that if she lived in the same city as me currently, I may be getting a lot of my wardrobe from my sister’s closet nowadays. Like this lovely number that she wore recently…

  1. NY & Co., Ruffled Sleeveless Tunic
  2. Forever21, Leaf Earrings
  3. Forever21, Leggings
  4. Forever21, Latice Back Sandals
