Iron Chef: Balsamic Strawberry Ice Cream

Hi Tipsy people! I’m Jesse, AK’s husband. My friends and I once tossed around a plan to have a real life Iron Chef competition. Like full-scale japanese iron chef, where we have to cook 5 dishes in 1 hour with 1 special ingredient. The trouble was: way too darn expensive. Cost Prohibitive to the nth degree.

So, flash forward another lifetime, and Danielle suggested we do an iron chef competition, but just 1 dish. I die.

So anyway, the secret ingredient: Balsamic Vinegar.

Balsamic vinegar can be tossed with strawberries to bring out there flavor, so I combined it (in syrup form) with home made ice cream. what WHAT!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Whole Milk
  • 1 cup Heavy Cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • Strawberries
  • Balsamic Vinegar

Method

  • Make sure your ice cream maker is prepared (mine takes 4 hours to fully freeze).
  • Combine whole milk, cream, sugar and vanilla in a bowl, whisk. Dice 6 strawberries and add to bowl; add mixture to ice cream maker and start.
  • Pour 1/4 to 1/2 cup balsamic vinegar to a small saucepan. Heat on medium heat for 30 minutes until the vinegar is a very heavy syrup.
  • Slice more strawberries and add to a bowl of your ice cream. Drizzle balsamic vinegar over the strawberries.

A Birthday for the Cars Obsessed

My oldest son will be 3 in October and his current obsession is Cars 2. He knows what country the racers are from, what their numbers are, where the 3 races in the World Grand Prix take place, etc etc. So, we play with cars every. single. day.  Keeping that in mind I’ve been trying to come up something for his birthday.  I’ve got 3 different things in mind that are potential winners.

  1. Park & Play Service Garage (CP Toys)- works with die-cast cars, has multiple ramps for driving or crashing vehicles (omg), has a working elevator (omg omg), and a car wash (omg omg omg)!!
  2. Disney Pixar Cars 2 Charge Ups Track Set (Target)- you charge up cars and then they race around the track on their own
  3. Quercetti Super Marble Run Vortis (Amazon)- or a marble run of some sort. The kiddo got to play with one of these in real life and dude was busy for a WHILE.

So tell me other moms of car obsessed children, what do I need?

Fabulous Footwear Friday!!

I have been on the hunt for some cute leopard print flats and ran across these.  I can’t decide if I like the gold hardware or not.  What say you?

Hump Day Happy Hour: Skinny Margaritas

A friend recently shared this recipe with my husband and since I’m not one to ever turn away a margarita, I had to try one. And since these are basically guilt-free libations we will definitely be partaking in them pretty regularly at our casa.  You will want to try these, trust me.

1oz silver tequila
11/2 to 2 oz fresh lime juice
Agave syrup to taste
Splash of soda water
Over crushed ice

PJ Fanatic

I’m definitely a PJ fanatic. It all started with my with my almost 3 year old and it picked up speed with my 4 month old.  I’ve got to say that my absolute favorite PJs are from Hanna Andersson so you can obviously see why I’d be a fan of Serena & Lily’s newest PJs where they partnered with Hanna Andersson….totally adorable.  I’m also a long time fan of Hatley footed PJs too.  Hatley has a bunch of these footie ones on sale.  The best thing about all of these is that they zip up.  No fumbling with snaps late at night!

  1. Hanna Andersson Organic Cotton Baby Sleeper – Blue Stripe, Serena & Lily
  2. Game Fish Infant Footed Coverall, Hatley
  3. Hanna Andersson Organic Cotton Baby Sleeper – Orange Star, Serena & Lily
  4. Cookie Monster Infant Footed Coverall, Hatley

Fanged Pumpkins

You guys, I saw this via Pinterest and I just about died from the cuteness! I SOOOOO want to make these this year for Halloween.  I’m wondering  how long they will last after carving before they start to look all shrunken and gross?

Do you carve a pumpkin every year? Do you get creative or do the same old thing every year?

Coats Under $40!

Target has a LOT of cute new coats for fall/winter and of course I’m checking them out because now that our highs are like 87 I feel like its downright chilly here!  The best thing about all of these coats is that they are under $40!!

  1. Mossimo Supply Co. Military Knit Jacket
  2. Xhilaration Bomber Jacket
  3. Xhilaration Side-Zip Moto Jacket
  4. Merona Water Repellent Short Trench Coat

Fabulous Footwear Friday!!

That Chaps My Hide

Ok you guys, I’ve been using Neutrogena Naturals Lip Balm for a couple of months now and it has turned out to not be my favorite, by far.  And this week my lips have been chapped, both figuratively and literally.  I tried upping my usage of Neutrogena Naturals Lip Balm to correct the problem, to no avail. On a whim I picked up Sally Hansen Daytime Lip Recovery. You guys, I used this stuff once and BAM! Total RECOVERY!  It’s good stuff I tell ya!
