Winery Spotlight: Newton Vineyards

For this Winery Spotlight I wanted to talk about my FAVORITE stop during our honeymoon wine country tour (circa 2007): Newton Vineyards in St. Helena, CA.

Reasons I loved this winery:

  • AMAZING Landscaping: To be able to say the landscaping was amazing in a place as beautiful as Napa Valley is something really special, but this place definitely stood out. All of the gardens in the vineyard are Asian inspired and meticulously maintained.
  • WONDERFUL People: We ended up wine tasting with our chauffeur on a day that Newton Vineyards wasn’t open to the public; however, due to some miscommunication, we ended up at Newton and the wonderful people went ahead and gave us a complimentary tasting that included the drop-kick-me-in-the-face BEST Chardonnay I’ve ever had; Unfiltered Chardonnay. (Kinda pricey though, retailing at about $50.00/bottle.)
  • GREAT Tips: The lady that lead our tasting was so well educated and full of knowledge that it was a tad overwhelming to take it all in, but the one thing I will never forget is the way she taught us to “cleanse our pallet”, which, in wine tasting terms, is extremely important as you try different varieties of wines. To cleanse your pallet, simply smell a plain white paper napkin for several seconds. I don’t remember how or why this worked, but it did!

I’m not going to tell you to run out and buy these wines UNLESS a) you are a wine connoisseur and have never tried Newton or b) filthy rich and could care less if you drop some serious coin on vino; however, if you do run out and buy any of the Newton wines, I promise you won’t shouldn’t be disappointed because they’re all amazing.

If you are planning a vaca to Napa Valley, make sure to include Newton Vineyards as one of your stops…and invite me of course!!!!

Final Question: 3 of the 5 pictures above were taken with my camera…can you tell which ones they are???????

Hump Day Happy Hour: Shamrock

In honor of this wonderful Irish holiday, mix…

  • 1.5 oz of Irish Whiskey
  • .5 oz of Dry Vermouth
  • .5 oz of Green Crème de Menthe
  • 1 tsp  Green Chartreuse

Happy St. Patrick’s Day! (Are you wearing green?)

Gimme some Shade

Nothing can transform a room more than a cool lamp, but what can transform a dull lamp? An awesome shade!

Here are a few of my faves:

  1. Pottery Barn, Calligraphy Straight Drum Lamp Shade
  2. Pottery Barn, Mica Drum Lamp Shade
  3. Pottery Barn, Filigree Star Ceiling Clip Shade
  4. Anthropologie, Guelaguetza Shade
  5. Anthropologie, Estuary Shade
  6. Etsy, Burlap Single Rosette Sconce/Chandelier Lampshade
  7. Etsy, Gray Drum Lampshade

What’s Old is New

So I’ve been on a cleaning kick here lately. SCHOCKING I know, but I ran across an old jewelry box the other day and this is what I found…

Aren’t these cute???? Apparently I had an obsession with stackable rings in high school, and I have fallen in love with them all over again.

LADIES, the lesson here is that you need to go clean out your old jewelry boxes STAT. (I know you have one somewhere…)

Work it Out

So me and my Tipsy Girl Court have been on a work out kick for the past 8 or 9 weeks. We joined our local YMCA and have been doing everything from spinning to boot camp, to basic cardio and weights. The main thing that we’ve taken away from our workouts is a) it’s nice to have a friend that keeps you honest and makes you go to workout, even when you don’t want to and b) the Y has given us an outlet for our ADD selves so we don’t get bored.

These are some of my workout basics:

  1. Nike, Shox Turbo: I’m a huge fan of this shoe. I got my first pair of shox two years ago and I think those need to be replaced with these awesome green ones!
  2. Academy, Soffe Cotton Rib Tank: These are $6.99, need I say more?
  3. Academy, BCG Razorback Bra: Just to keep the girls in line.
  4. Academy, Nike Field Pants: I typically do NOT work out in pants because I don’t like to sweat and I feel like they always make me sweat more (I know, I know, I’m weird). These are great (only if I have to) workout pants because they are not tight (I’m a bit booty girl and those cute yoga tights do nothing for me).
  5. Academy, Nike Tempo Shorts: You know that embarrassing sweaty ass mark, aka SWASS, (I’m just being honest) you get when you’re really working hard? These shorts DO NOT show that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂
  6. Academy, Nike Dri-Fit T-shirt: Similar to the shorts, this shirt doesn’t show sweat marks so people can go on believing that us girls don’t sweat like pigs…OH, and this shirt keeps you nice and toasty when the weather is less than optimal outside.

Extreme Makeover: Closet Edition

This past weekend I visited my sister, who lives with her hubby and new puppy Tex on a ranch in north west  Texas, aka, BFE!  Her house is a super-cute old farm house that is severely lacking in storage space…so she decided to transform her master bedroom closet.

The results are, to say the least, AMAZING…

How was this accomplished?

  1. Everything was taken out of the closet, including the clothes rods and shelves.
  2. The closet was painted.
  3. Hung up the elfa storage system that was ordered from the Container Store.
  4. Organized all the clothes, shoes, and miscellaneous items that needed to go back in the closet with bins and storage boxes from Wal-Mart.
  5. Hung a few pictures to make the new closet cozy.

So BAM…there you have it…what do you think? (I personally think it actually looks like something out of a magazine.)

Hump Day Happy Hour: Red Beer

My hubby likes to call this our “Sunday Drink” because we typically drink these on lazy Sunday afternoons…it gives the day a nice kick…

  1. Mix equal parts beer and bloody mary mix (or tomato juice)
  2. Add a squeeze of lime
  3. Add a dash of salt and pepper

Enjoy, and keep thinking…the weekend is almost here!!!

Dreaming of the Little Blue Box

There’s no doubt that every woman LOVES getting something that comes in a little blue box with that beautiful white ribbon tied around it. I’ve recently been loving on these delicate necklaces from Tiffany and Co., which are surprisingly affordable.

(Well, ok, affordable by Tiffany standards…)

  1. Elsa Peretti Color by the Yard Necklace
  2. Tiffany 1837 Interlocking Circles Lariat
  3. Elsa Peretti Bean Pendant
  4. Elsa Peretti Round Pendant
  5. Frank Gehry Fish Pendant

And Then There was Light…

I love lamps…plain, simple, it’s love…

  1. Pottery Barn, Brookshire Ceremic Table Lamp
  2. Restoration Hardware, Crystal Pier Lamp
  3. Pottery Barn, Eva Colored Glass Table Lamp
  4. Pottery Barn, Hayes Task Table Lamp
  5. Anthropologie, Curiouser Lamp
  6. Pottery Barn, James Glass Kerosene Lamp
  7. Pottery Barn, Fairview Table Lamp
  8. Anthropologie, String-of-Pearls Lamp

Now, if only they weren’t so dang expensive!
