Morning Sickness Survival Kit

Ello Ladies, specifically you pregnant ladies who can barely hold your head up without barfing in the AM, I’m talkin to YOU!  I was NOT one of the lucky ones to experience pregnancy sans morning sickness. Now, I’m sure there are some who have it much worse than I, but I felt like death for a good portion of the last 6 weeks. I figured out a few tricks along the way and this is what kept me from losing my breakfast.. you know, or lunch or dinner.

  1. Amazon, Preggie Pop Drops – Looks like a cough drop, tastes like a Jolly Rancher and I have no idea why, but kept me from barfing many a time on my morning commute to work or when lunch didn’t make it to the table fast enough or someone walked by wearing rank ass perfume. Miracle drops should really be their name. Don’t walk, run, Pregos!
  2. Walmart, Clear American Sparkling Water– I know I’m supposed to drink a lot of water for my little bambino. One issue: water sat on my stomach like a brick and made me want to vomit even more. Sparkling water was my happy medium. Bubbles for the tum-tum and light fruit flavor that is delish and refreshing, even on your worst days.
  3. Amazon, Colgate Wisp– The coolest invention I’ve run across in a long time. Perfect for getting that nasty taste out of your mouth that is about to make you hurl OR for cleaning your self up after the hurling is over. Purse sized and disposable and perfect.
  4. Saltines- This is a morning sickness staple heard ’round the world, but I just thought I’d reiterate just how helpful it is to stick a few of these crackers in your piehole before you even lift your head off the pillow. Makes getting dressed in the morning much less nauseating.
  5. Apples- I know this sounds weird, but they are crisp and not too sweet and not too sour. They also will take a nasty taste out of your mouth and put something on your stomach without being to heavy. Apples were and are still at least a twice a day occurrence for me.

Products On A Stick

The Rodeo just ended here in Houston which generally means I would have been stuffing my piehole with sausage on a stick, mountains of curly fries, Goode Co. chicken sandwiches, maybe 1 or 4 funnel cakes.  Alas we did not make it out there, at least not in the sense that we normally do…we went to the petting zoo but that was about it.  So no food this year for me!  What’s better than Sausage on a Stick? Products on a Stick!!  Anybody tried any of these?

Summa Summa Summa Time

Its right around the corner and that means we need to get started with all of outdoor decor.  Just like all of the Tipsy Girls, I love to have people over and to entertain.  Being that I just moved into a new abode and am really focused on my outdoor scenery, I’ve been doing a lot of searching to spruce up the outside decor at my casa.

Here’s my top ten:

  1. Ceramic Beverage Dispensers – These are a very simple and colorful way to hold sun tea or your favorite summer cocktail.
  2. Bamboo Chairs – Bamboo, outdoor chairs.  Do I have to explain myself again?  This.is.so.me. I Also like this look because they are resilient and versatile AND bamboo is extremely durable (bamboo is stronger than lots of steel…whaaa?)
  3. Outdoor Votive Holder – They are on my to do list.  So simple, so affordable.
  4. Rain Chain Buckets -These are actually designed to adorn unsightly drains on your the outside of your home.  I also thought they would also work well hanging from a porch or patio.
  5. Side Table – I just purchased some cheap as hell discounted Adirondack chairs from Big Lots and am looking for some side tables to spruce these chairs up.  I may have found the answer here.  Hopefully LLBean will decide to have an LLClearance soon:).
  6. Glazed Fire Pot -This thing is mine and awesome. ‘Nough said.
  7. Smart Solar Sphere – I love these solar powered gadgets.  They know when to come on and off and they recharge themselves.  Can’t get any better than that!
  8. Solar Powered House Numbers – A lot of us have house numbers on the street, mailbox, house, lawn.  But these really caught my eye.  These have solar powered LEDs that you program with your street number and place where you please.  TOO COOL.
  9. Hanging Lanterns – If those don’t make the cut for outside, they are cute enough to go on my nightstand.  Love the colors.
  10. Coca Cola Light Set – Such a fun and classic touch to any area outside.  And did I mention cheap?

So, everyone at my place tomorrow?

Something Cute to Catch the Rouge Food

In our household, we use placemats at every meal. No, we aren’t all fancy pants. We are messy. We need that extra coverage that a placemat gives for all the drips and drops and glops that may come a fallin while we are hurling food into our mouths. I like mine to be cute too. These will fit the bill!

  1. World Market, Braided Round Placemats
  2. World Market, Sarika Spring Floral Placemats
  3. Crate and Barrel, Caliente Placemats
  4. Target, Classic Bandana Placemats
  5. Crate and Barrel, Palm Duo Teal Green Placemat
  6. Crate and Barrel, Ula Green Multi Placemats
  7. Amazon, DII Caliente Stripe Placemats
  8. Crate and Barrel, Maisie Tangerine Placemats

Post It Post

I do not have the best memory in the world and it seems to be getting worse by the day these days, so I rely on some little post-its to get me through my day. I like to make sure they have a little sass or flair too!

THE Snack Trap

For all the mommies out there…when your child gets to the age where they an actually feed themselves…man o man it’s a wonderous thing RIGHT?!  I went on the hunt for a snack trap that my little guy could carry around and not make a huge mess. Sooooo my first purchase was #2.  #2 looks great in theory but that little top that you see…it can be ripped off very easily and the snack is no longer trapped.  FAIL.  Then I purchased #1, it seemed a little more secure.  However if you turn it upside down and shake VERY hard the snacks won’t be trapped.  FAIL.  Then I found the ONE.  #3.  It’s bigger, yes, it’s ugly, yes.  BUT.  The top screws on and the part they push their hand through to get to the snack…I’m telling you it’s virtually impossible for them to spill unless they are like my son who likes to grab a handful of cheerios and pull his hand out and sprinkle them all over the floor. FTW!

The Cookbooks That Keep Those Last 10lbs On Me

I was blessed with a husband that LOVES to cook.  Which works out perfectly for me because I really only ENJOY doing party food….you know Guac, Appetizers, Texas Caviar, any Desserts…  Our cookbook collection varies quite a bit because he loves to cook all sorts of stuff and I like to cook pretty specific stuff.  These are our go-to cookbooks:

  1. La Pinata, Junior League of McAllen, TX–I know this cookbook seems kinda far fetched to order and stuff but it was handed down through my family.  It’s got a ton of good recipes–The Never Fail Biscuits OMG are so good I could make myself sick, King Ranch Casserole, Chicken Tetrazzini, and the list goes on…
  2. The Lady & Sons Savannah Country Cookbook (Paula Deen), Amazon–You can’t go wrong with the Gooey Butter Cakes and my husband likes The Lady’s Chicken Noodle Soup
  3. Finger Food, Amazon–The perfect party cookbook! The pizza pinwheels on the cover are GOOD and there are a ton more things in here that are perfect hor d’oerves.
  4. Sangrias & Pitcher Drinks, Amazon–I’ve used the Strawberry Basil Lemonade recipe for partys/showers and it’s a HIT.
  5. Mexican Everyday (Rick Bayless), Amazon–My husband made the Pork Tinga and it was UHmazing…and I love love love the Guacamole 2 Ways–could sit and eat that with chips for dinner.
  6. CrockPot, Amazon–There is a Chipolte Chicken recipe in here that has been on our weekly lineup for a LONG TIME.  It’s yummy!
  7. The Pioneer Woman Cooks, Amazon–EVERYTHING
  8. Mexico The Beautiful Cookbook, Amazon–Mexico City Enchiladas and the Avocado Salad Dressing are TO DIE FOR!

Mercury Glass…Because It Looks Badass

I’m redoing my mantle.  I just purchased a carved, painted wooden thing–not sure how else to describe it.  So anyway, it’s colorful like the rest of my house and it’s not very tall, so I need something a little taller to balance things out.  My heart is set on some mercury glass candle pillars.  Here are some mercury items I’ve found during my hunt.  I’ll post a picture of my completed mantle soon!

  1. At West End, mercury glass candle holders
  2. Wisteria, Antiqued Glass Pillar Candleholders
  3. Amazon, Antique Mercury Glass Candle Holder
  4. Target, Mercury Glass Votive Candleholder
  5. Pottery Barn, Mercury Tealight Holder

BAM…Organized!

Part of my New Year’s Resolution was to get some closets organized.  I have a crapload of gift wrapping stuff that I needed to get UNDER CONTROL.  I also had a frenzy of scarves trying to conquer the world of my coat closet.  So I’m going to show you below how I accomplished these tasks with some not so obvious tools.

Wrapping Paper was put in a Hanging Laundry Bag.

Tissue Paper and Scarves* were brought under control by Pant Hangers.

Gift Bows, Ribbons, Etc Etc Etc were put in a Hanging Sweater Organizer with Fabric Drawers

*In the Great Scarf Reorganization of 2010 I realized I don’t need to buy ANY.MORE.GREY.SCARVES.  I’ve got it covered.

Give Me a Wedge(e)!

Get it?   HAHAHA.  I’m pretty lame.

So,  I’ve figured out that due to various situations I am not longer eligible for stilettos or 4 inch heels.  I have outlined these below:

  • WAS- weak ankle syndrome
  • achy feet
  • getting too damned old
  • not wanting to feel like too much of a stripper
  • the high likelihood that if I have consumed any alcohol at all–I could end up DFO (done fell out aka, on the ground)

The solution?  Easy, a wedge or platform.  I am completely in love.  The elegance for the dressier times, the comfort I need.  Here’s a few I have my eyes on.

  1. Michael Antonio Green Wedge
  2. Rampage Wedge with Turquoise
  3. Jessica Simpson Orange Wedge
  4. BCBG Crimson Platform
  5. Xhiliration Olive Wedge

On another note, all of these seem to have a pretty good price tag!
